Procedure
The usual procedure is to submit your laid-out page proofs in PDF format. We can then proofread these digitally, using the text edits tool to indicate the corrections. Alternatively, we can also proofread them in hard copy, using typical international symbols for hardcopy corrections (in which case, we supply a symbols key with the returned work). Naturally, however, you can also upload the text in Word if you prefer. Another option – one that saves you time and money because it removes the need for you to return to the designer/desktop publisher – is for you to send the InDesign files, which we can work in directly.
At the proofreading stage of course, only the absolute minimum of changes are made, unlike in the editing process.
Languages
As with translations, we can arrange work in many languages. We specialise, however, in English proofreading. Be sure to let us know your preference for British, American or even Australian English when you upload your document.
Fee
Proofreading work is charged per hour. As a very rough guideline, we proofread at a rate of about 2000 words per hour, depending on the quality of the text. We are happy to offer a discounted price for long documents (e.g. more than 10,000 words).
You can use the request form to submit a job or request an obligation-free quote.
